More and more parents are switching to home school for their children, as there are many benefits offered here.

Regardless of where you are home schooling there are going to be important issues that you have to take into consideration. Home schooling in Florida is no different, and so if you live in the Florida area and are planning to home school your children, there are a few things that you are going to want to know.

Home Schooling in Florida

If you are interested in getting into home schooling in Florida, there are a few things to think about first. Remember that you need to be flexible, and that what works for one family may not work for another. You really need to go through some trial and error here, in order to determine what is going to work best for your own children.

Home schooling in Florida can be incredibly beneficial to both you and your children. You get to spend more time together, time that you will never be able to get back. Your children will also respect you more because they will see that you see that you take a serious interest in their education and general well being.

Getting Ready

There are a few things that you are going to have to do to get ready to get into home schooling in Florida. First you are going to have to get the necessary materials together, including pens, pencils, paper, and the other basic school utensils. You want to make sure that your children have everything they need to complete their school work as they regularly would.

You need to ensure that home schooling does not make the schooling process any more difficult for your children, and instead you want to make the transition as smooth as possible for them.

You are also going to need to have the proper coursework and textbooks ready for them to use, so that they can work with the same criteria that children in regular school do. As long as you take the necessary steps here you will be able to home school your children properly and reap all the rewards and benefits that come from doing so.

One of the best things about home schooling your children is that you are able to design your own curriculum, so if your children are behind or ahead other children their age you will be able to create a curriculum to fit their specific needs.

Public schools are becoming more dangerous and private schools are too expensive for the many parents who have opted for home schooling high school. There are many great benefits here as you will get to bond with your teenager. Plus, you can make sure that your teenager is getting the best education possible so that they can do well in the future. Home schooling high school also allows your child to focus on their studies without all of the peer pressure and problems that they would face in the public school system.

The Benefits of Home Schooling High School

First of all there are no overcrowded classrooms, instead your child will get one-on-one teaching that provides your child with all of the attention and help that they need. This is something that public school teachers are unable to do and yet it is an important part of ensuring that your child will succeed.

Secondly, your child will never have to struggle because you will recognize when he needs some extra help in an area.

Third, home schooling high school is a lot safer than public schools. Whenever your child is homeschooled you know for sure that your child’s life is not in danger, which is something that cannot be said for the public school system.

Fourth and finally, there is no teacher that can desire your child be as successful as you do. You can also ensure this success because you will work harder than anyone else to make sure that it happens.

Curriculum for Home Schooling High School

If you are considering Home schooling High School for your child, then you should know that there are many types of curriculum available to help you. Thanks to these many materials there is no need to worry that home schooling high school will prevent your child from attending college. Three of the best curriculums that are available are actually Christian in nature.

The first is Covenant’s home schooling high school curriculum which is great for Christian parents. The curriculum is tailored to fit your teenager’s needs and the guide will show you want to assign your child to do each day. Secondly, Abeka Books also ensures that your children’s academic studies are Christian based. The lessons are always based upon Scripture and the Bible. Third, there is Apologia Science runs which from grades K through 12. This is a great way to get your child ready for college since it teaches your child through hands on experiments. If your child becomes bored easily, then you should get this curriculum because it keeps them interested.

All parents love their children dearly but many breathe a sigh of relief when they see them hopping on the school bus every morning. New moms are often counting the days till their child begins preschool so that she can get some me time, so the question that arises time and time again is why home school?

Why spend so much time, money and resources on teaching your children when qualified teachers are present in state-run schools just around the corner? The answers to why home school differs for parents, but some of the reasons include:

Dissatisfaction with Public Schools

Many parents decide to home school as they are just fed up with the public school system which focuses on the average child in large classrooms with few resources. The gifted child or one with a learning disability is often sidetracked in regular public schools and parents have to step up and take the responsibility themselves to impart an education more in tune with their child’s abilities.

More Control

Another reason why home schooling parents are happy with their decision is that they have much more control over their child’s education and environment when they are home schooled. Even when they do go for extra curricular activities at the park district or YMCA, they are under the supervision of their parents as opposed to a teacher who has to keep an eye on 30 plus kids. Parents feel in home schooling they can better keep track of the company their kids are keeping and perhaps have a more influential role in keeping them away from drugs, premarital sex and guns.

Cost

Many parents are unhappy with what their school district has to offer yet they cannot afford expensive private schools. This is why they home school; to get the best of both worlds. They can provide a safer and more customized education environment plus not have to take out a second mortgage just to send the kids to a private school.

Love for Learning and Children

And as strange as it may seem to some parents, others just love to be able to spend one on one time with their child and learn and re-learn things together. They like the flexibility to be able to go to the park on a weekday or make a trip downtown to a museum for an impromptu field trip and not having to bother about permission slips, car pools and lunch money. They enjoy being such an important part of their child’s life and that is simply why they home school.

The best time to start home schooling is at the beginning of your child’s school experience. Home schooling a kindergartener can provide a solid and positive educational foundation in a caring and compassionate environment. To have a lasting impact, parents should keep in mind a few basic ideas when planning to home school a kindergartener.

Scope of Studies

Kindergarten is a time to introduce new ideas and skills. Home schooling a kindergartener should include instruction in language arts, math, science, social studies and health. While that may seem like a lot to accomplish, parents can break down these subjects into age-appropriate activities. Language arts can be as relaxing as listening to a story being read, or it can involve asking the child to orally describe a favorite toy or special memory.

For math, counting buttons or books or the cracks in the sidewalk adds fun and hands-on exposure to a vital concept. Social studies can explore holidays and traditions, and an inventive parent will include crafts and other memory-making ideas for this subject. Taking a kindergarten student on a nature walk, while observing plants and animals is an excellent introduction to science and the world around them. For health class, hand washing and teeth brushing enforce the concept of personal hygiene in a relevant way.

Goals of Kindergarten

Every parent should establish a set of goals when home schooling a kindergartener. At the end of the school year, a child should be able to count to 20, recite the alphabet, use complete sentences and have started the writing process. The student should understand their role in the family, as well as the purpose of major holidays. The kindergartener should have developed self-respect and self-awareness, and be able to address their basic needs. While this is a very basic outline of necessary skills, it may provide a parent with the beginning framework on which to judge their child’s development.

Fun and Rewarding

Although there are academic considerations when home schooling a kindergartener, perhaps one of the most important areas to remember is the atmosphere. This will be the child’s first formal exposure to the education process and it’s vital to maintain an enthusiastic and fun environment. Smiles, laughs and giggles should accompany every subject. Studies have shown a surprising, connection between laughing and learning. Students retain more information in a relaxed setting, which ultimately develops a healthy mindset to the learning process. Home schooling a kindergartener can provide a child with a positive and profitable foundation for their education.

During the past few years, home schooling has become more popular as well as more accepted with many arguments for and against the practice. There are many logical thoughts behind families choosing to educate their children at home and reverting back to the educational opportunities presented before mandatory public schooling became the norm. Families are finding home schooling helps to build a closer family relationship.

The reasons families choose to offer their own educational environment are as diverse as the families themselves. There is no correlation between the family’s socio-economic standing as their decision to educate their children in the home, however there are a few common reasons cited for home schooling. Pointing to the safety of their children as a prime concern, many parents choose to keep their kids out of dangerous situations.

They also cite negative peer pressure for keeping their children out of public and private school environments as well as the bullying by a few other children in the school. Shielding their kids from the lure of drugs and alcohol are other leading concerns that prompt some of the over two-million students to participate in home schooling every year.

Reasons For Home Schooling Offer Diverse Thoughts

In addition to attempts to protect their children from what they believe to be unacceptable behavior, some proponents of home schooling also believe that taking a child at such a young age and placing them in the rigid, unforgiving environment of public education is harmful to the learning experience. They claim that plucking them from the safety and security of the their home at about six years old and plunging them into the rigid and structured environment of schools actually harms them academically, socially and mentally.

Most who believe in home schooling contend that as children the desire to learn is greater than in adults and most children will learn more and learn quicker in an environment to which they are familiar and feel comfortable. The bonds between parent and child are stronger before they leave home for a formal education and keeping them in the home, learning from their parents enables them to learn at their own pace, some quicker than others, while providing them the education they will need later in life.

While many opponents claim the child will lack in social development when placed in a home schooling environment, others point out that it is the parents and their home life that sets the tone for the social abilities and no the formal school environment they may be in for 180 days every year.

In many cases home school students are encouraged to follow a curriculum set by the state unless they get a specialized curriculum approved by the state regent’s board. This is actually a good thing for home school students because that means that they can purchase used home school books instead of having to spend money on new books.

It seems a little odd to be talking about used home school books as being essential to the home school student but very little about being home schooled is left to chance as far as a curriculum goes and as far as the state regents is concerned. The students may be learning at home but the material they are required to learn is the same as public and private school students and the text books are also very similar.

Because we are talking about home schooling it goes without saying that some of the elements will be different than traditionally schooled students. The one main difference is that the books used by the home school student are provided by their parents but they still must follow a curriculum. A home school student and their parents can save a great deal of money, and get the books they need, if they purchase used home school books that follow state approved curriculum.

It takes a lot of the guess work out of how classes are to be conducted for home school students and it can reduce the cost as text books can be very expensive. The other advantage to used home school books is that the home school student gets more current text books than the traditionally schooled student but still winds up paying a lot less than if they bought their books new.

How to Get Them

As with anything in this day and age you can get used home school books on the internet and there are a lot of websites dedicated to used home school books. You can also get curriculum information on the websites that sell used home school books and you can also get a feel for what types of materials to offer your home school student by checking out these home school sites. The internet can prove to be the single biggest resource for any home school student and their parents and as more information becomes available on the internet about home schooling the more valuable of a resource it becomes.

The internet is also helping home schooled children and their parents cut down on costs in another way. For several years now e-books have been very popular and these are books that are on a computer and can only be viewed on a computer. All you are really getting is the information from the book without the hard cover and paper pages and this is a perfect resource for home school children that are allowed to learn at their own pace. As we can see, technology is definitely making home schooling easier every day.

If you are interested in home schooling your children, one of the first things you are going to have to do is create a home school work sheet. This home school work sheet is basically going to be the work sheet that your children will follow for their home schooling and is therefore going to be one of the most important aspects here.

There are many things that you are going to want to consider when creating your home school work sheet, and for one you are going to want to think about the different subjects that you are going to be teaching your children. This will vary depending on your own personal choice but you are going to want to include the basics, such as English, math, history, geography, and science.

Get Into It

Once you have completed this home school work sheet there are a few other things you are going to have to do as well. You are going to have to get the proper equipment and materials for your children so that they are ready and able to do their coursework. This would include pens, pencils, paper, markers, rulers, and so on.

You are also going to have to get the necessary textbooks and tests, and remember that it is important to try and keep their school routine as normal as possible in order to ensure that they do not have to go through any drastic change and make the transition as smooth and easy as possible for them.

The home school work sheet is really just one of many components that are necessary here, and if you really want your children to get the most out of their home schooling then you are going to want to make sure you are completely prepared and ready to go before getting them started.

There are many benefits that your child can receive as a result of being home schooled, and for one they are really going to respect the fact that you are so interested in their education and well being. By home schooling your children you are getting to spend quality time with them that you otherwise would have been missing out on.

Time with your children is truly invaluable and is something that you simply cannot get back. You and your children will both love the home schooling option as long as you go about it the right way.

The debate of home school vs public school always goes on with each side of the fence in heated arguments about how they are right when it comes to the future of their children. There is no wrong or right answer when it boils down to the home school vs public school argument, however many parents who choose to send their children to public schools have this to say

Parents Are Not Trained as Teachers

In the home school vs public school dilemma, one point that always comes up is that teachers have been trained specifically in imparting concepts, controlling classrooms and teaching subjects as opposed to parents who may be trained in other disciplines like accounting or science or may not even have a high school diploma. They feel parents can coach their children with homework but are bit ill equipped in becoming a full time teacher.

Homes Do Not Have as Many Resources

Another argument in the home school vs public school dilemma is that while you can have a desk and a chair and a dry erase board at home, you cannot have a gym, music room, theater, band and other supplies such as the variety of art supplies or sports equipment that a school budget can afford. They feel that these disciplines are essential to a well rounded child’s growth and hence they feel a home schooled child misses out on these.

Social Interaction

Home schooled kids are thought to not have enough social interaction with their peers. They might get the same or better education at a home school vs public school but they have that one-on-one. Some experts believe that the individualized attention they receive doesn’t equip them well enough for college life or the work environment that they have to adapt to later on. Having squabbles with peers forming groups and sorting out issues is a learning experience which they believe home schooled kids miss out on.

However, home schooling experts believe that the image of home schooled children sitting around the kitchen table is dated; today’s home schooled children are enrolled in a variety of extra curricular activities such as sports, arts, music and the like. They do not like the home school vs public school debate that their children are not being trained in a whole variety of disciplines. Instead they feel the home schooled kids are making better use of their time by not wasting time in commute, lining up, walking from class to class etc.

Many things about home schooling are regimented by state law and strictly adhered to for the good of the child. In most cases it is the parents’ decision to pull their children from traditional schooling and have them be home schooled and the state wants to make sure that the material that is being taught in the traditional schools is also being taught in the home schooling environment as well.

There are a lot of reasons for this but the one main reason is that states use a curriculum to prepare a child for college and then eventually making their way in the world. If a child is not equipped with the proper tools then they are at a distinct disadvantage and that is not only bad for the child but it is bad for the future of the country as well. A nation cannot stand strong on the backs of children that were not taught the essential educational lessons needed to prepare them for the rest of their lives. That is why the home school transcript is so important.

A home school transcript is just like a traditional transcript. It is a summary of the academic accomplishments of the child while they were being home schooled. The obvious difference between a traditional transcript and a home school transcript is that if the parents are the certified home teachers of the children then they are also the ones that complete the home school transcript and submit it to the state. There are laws governing the creation of a home school transcript but there is still much debate as to whether or not having a home school transcript over a traditional transcript affects a child’s future educational opportunities.

Everyone Needs One

You cannot be accepted to college without a high school transcript and a high school transcript that is made by your parents is supposed to be accepted at face value but there is a lot of debate as to whether or not that is true. The idea of home schooling is still relatively new at least on the scale that it has turned into the last few years.

Colleges and universities are still getting used to seeing a home school transcript and figuring out what to do with them. The solution may seem easy but there is always that stigma that your parents made your home school transcript so how accurate is it really? That is why home school students are usually required to take state testing throughout their school careers. If the testing and the transcript don’t match then someone is in trouble.

Home schooling is not some fad that people can just dismiss. A growing number of parents are becoming disillusioned with the traditional school systems and the growing violence seems to be the last straw for many parents. But home schooling is not always the best answer and you should gather all of the information you can and consider the consequences for a long time before you decide to home school your child.
