Finding Home School Resources
Home schooling is a big decision that many people are investigating. There are many home school resources available and these can assist in making the choice to home school a viable one.
Some Home School Resources Available
One of the first and best places to begin your research into home schooling is through the internet. There are many national as well as local support groups for home schooling. The internet as a home school resource is not only one of the fastest ways of getting information; it also can be a window into the true experience of home schooling.
There are many websites that feature families and their discoveries when home schooling. As one of the home school resources available to families, checking out what others have found when home schooling is a great teaching tool. Families list what types of curriculum they have used and how successful it has been for them, they list other home school resources that they have found. All of this can give the prospective home school family a real understanding of the day to day workings of a home school.
Another way to find home school resources is to discover which book stores carry home school curriculum. Many areas have these specialty stores, and home school families are always welcome. This is a great way to view the curriculum available and also find out about any local meetings with other home school families.
Contacting your state board of education can also lead you to more home school resources. They may be able to put you in touch with other families that might be using the online academies that many states have now approved and accredited. The state may also have on its web page links to home school support groups that can then get you in touch with local families.
Churches can be another home school resource. Often, local churches support the home school community by allowing families to use their facility to have meetings or group activities for kids. Contacting area churches can get you in touch with local home schools groups.
Deciding to home school is a big decision that needs to be made after viewing all of the requirements involved. Remember individual states have different requirements in regards to the number of hours students need to be taught and students may need to pass assessment tests.
