How To Successfully Home School Your Preschool Child.
Many people assume that homeschooling starts when your child is old enough to enter kindergarten, but with a little work, you can successfully home school your preschool child. Running a home school preschool program is a great way to entertain and stimulate your child while getting them ready for the serious learning that they will encounter when they turn five years old.
Home School For Preschool Children Isn’t All Academic
The idea of school usually brings to mind things like reading, writing, and arithmetic, but when you do a home school preschool program with your child, you have a broad spectrum of subjects to deal with. Not everything you teach your child will be academic. It is important to work on motor skills, social skills, and even language with your preschool age child.
Allow your child to work on fine motor skills by letting them color in color books. Another great skill for your three or four year old to develop is scissor skills. Allow your child to cut lines on paper or even cut out pictures that they have colored. Working with clay, using cookie cutters and rolling pins is another great way for your child to develop their motor skills.
Increase your child’s social skills by taking field trips. Visit your library, park, and even play groups to get your child interacting with other kids and adults. This will also build your child’s language skills.
Another great way to home school your preschool child is to include them in your everyday household activities. Letting your child cook with you can provide him or her with valuable math lessons. Letting your three year old help you fold laundry can improve motor skills and teaching your child to clean up after himself helps develop responsibility.
Home School for Preschool Curriculum
There are great home school preschool curriculum programs available that help parents teach basic academics to their three and four year olds. Many companies that provide curriculum for older students also provide preschool curriculum. It is also possible to find great age appropriate work books at your local book store. It is important to remember when home schooling preschool children, that their attention spans are not as long as that of older children. It is ok to only do half a lesson one day or to not always finish a whole work sheet page. With preschool children, repetition is key, so be prepared to teach them the same concept more than one time.
